Robofunktion GmbH was responsible for servicing all KUKA robots in Wolfsburg on behalf of KUKA Roboter GmbH and trained approximately 500 employees in courses for KUKA College and Volkswagen Coaching.

VW History

Robofunktion GmbH was founded during the Golf A4 project in Wolfsburg. From the introduction of the first Volkswagen KUKA robot control system to the completion of the project, we wrote and optimized programs for almost every robot in all three body-in-white factories. The companies that commissioned us were: FATA Automation, COMAU, Siemens AG, KUKA Roboter GmbH, Dressler Automation GmbH, and InPro GmbH. Since then, we have been operating continuously, with steady and healthy growth, in all Volkswagen Group plants worldwide.

Where we come from

History of Robofunktion

Thomas Werner, CEO Robofunktion GmbH

In 1996, the world’s largest robot construction site was launched in Wolfsburg. Over a thousand robots were installed in the factory halls for the Golf A4 project, ushering in a new era and replacing stationary welding systems in the world’s largest contiguous production facility.

As part of this project, Robofunktion was founded through the outsourcing of software development for robots from Siemens AG and the outsourcing of robot services from KUKA Roboter GmbH. On the initiative of Dr. Irtel v. Brenndorff, initial negotiations with customers were held in 1998 and the first international orders were successfully completed in 1999.

The service-oriented Robofunktion team was formed from the merger of business economist Silke Bobbert, plant developer Helge Asmus, current KUKA robot developer Martin Ott, and founder and former KUKA employee Thomas Werner.

Today, Robofunktion offers services related to the use of robot systems with over 60 experienced robot programmers. Thanks to our broad spectrum of automation experience, we now have tried-and-tested in-house program packages available for almost every application and all major robot types.

To date, thousands of programmers have learned how to program robots through our teaching activities for VW Coaching, KUKA College, technical academies, and research institutes, or at our own premises.
